Please Share the Beginning of Your Career Journey with Us.

Veni Reddy

I came from humble beginnings and never imagined that one day I would build a business in the highly technical world of instrumentation and automation.

My journey began nearly three decades ago, long before entrepreneurship was even on my radar. My foundation was forged through hands-on experience, continuous learning, and deep collaboration with engineers, technical teams, and industrial clients. These experiences gave me not only technical knowledge but also a practical understanding of the challenges businesses face and the importance of delivering solutions that create genuine value.

One of the greatest challenges in my career has been building credibility and a business in an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated. As a woman in instrumentation and automation, establishing technical credibility presented an additional hurdle. I embraced that challenge by deepening my technical fluency, strengthening my understanding of business strategy, and leading with unwavering confidence.

Facing doubts based on gender was an undeniable reality, but I refused to let other people’s perceptions define my worth. Instead, I allowed my experience, consistency, and outcomes to speak for themselves. In the technical world, I learned that credibility is earned, one delivered promise at a time.

Entrepreneurship introduced an entirely new level of complexity. Launching MSV meant embracing calculated risks, navigating financial pressures, acquiring market share, leading teams, and making high-stakes decisions under uncertainty. There were moments when stepping back felt tempting, but clarity of purpose kept me moving forward.

Transitioning from a technical expert to a strategic CEO required a complete evolution of my mindset. I had to expand my capabilities far beyond instrumentation and automation into core executive disciplines, including strategic planning, financial stewardship, high-stakes negotiation, and team leadership. Mastering the business side of the enterprise meant continuously stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing relentless personal growth.

I have learned that challenges are not roadblocks; they are preparation. Every obstacle I encountered helped build the strength, vision, and resilience I needed to step into higher levels of leadership.

The obstacles I faced did not simply test me—they shaped me into a more decisive and resilient leader. Today, that experience fuels my passion to create genuine opportunities and ensure that other women not only have the opportunity to enter technical industries but also have the support and confidence to thrive at the highest levels.

I have learned that when access is not readily given, you must have the courage to build your own table. But true success is not simply about taking your place at the head of that table. It is about ensuring that there is always room for other women to take their seats alongside you.

Could You Highlight the Key Offerings?

At MSV Instrumentation and Supplies, we specialise in instrumentation, process automation, and electrical solutions. Our offering is focused on helping customers measure, monitor, control, and optimise their industrial processes.

Our solutions include level measurement, pressure and temperature instrumentation, flow measurement, vibration monitoring, sensors, process control equipment, automation components, and related industrial technologies. We work across multiple industries and applications, providing customers with solutions that address genuine operational requirements rather than simply supplying products.

One of our key strengths is our ability to understand the technical requirement behind a customer’s challenge. A customer may approach us because they need to measure the level of a tank, monitor vibration on rotating equipment, improve process reliability, or select the correct sensor for a particular environment. Our role is to understand the application and guide them toward an appropriate technical solution.

We also place significant emphasis on quality, responsiveness, and technical support. In instrumentation, selecting the correct product is critical because inaccurate or unreliable measurement can affect an entire process. Our responsibility therefore extends beyond supplying equipment—we aim to ensure that customers receive solutions that are technically appropriate for their specific applications.

Our growth strategy is built around developing strong relationships with customers and technology partners, while continuously expanding our technical knowledge and product portfolio. Staying informed about advances in industrial technology allows us to respond effectively to evolving customer requirements.

I am particularly passionate about bringing innovative technologies into the South African market and creating greater awareness of solutions that can improve industrial efficiency, predictive maintenance, process optimisation, and automation.

Technology is changing rapidly, and African industry has an enormous opportunity to embrace these developments. At MSV Instrumentation and Supplies, we want to be an active part of that journey by helping businesses access the technologies and technical solutions they need to operate more efficiently, reliably, and sustainably.

What Are Your Long-Term Goals, and Where Do You Envision Yourself in the Coming Years?

My long-term vision is to continue building MSV Instrumentation and Supplies into a respected and innovative South African instrumentation and automation company while expanding our reach, technical capabilities, and strategic partnerships.

I want MSV to become increasingly recognised not simply as an instrumentation supplier, but as a trusted technology partner that helps customers solve complex industrial challenges and identify solutions that improve the efficiency, reliability, and performance of their operations.

A major focus for the future will be innovation. Industrial organisations are increasingly moving toward automation, condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, connected systems, data-driven decision-making, and smarter manufacturing. I want MSV to participate meaningfully in this transformation and help businesses understand and adopt technologies that can strengthen their competitiveness.

My experience as a panellist at Manufacturing Indaba 2026, where I participated in discussions around AI, data, predictive manufacturing, and the transformation of African manufacturing through automation and smart technologies, reinforced my belief that technology adoption will be fundamental to the future competitiveness of African industry.

I also want to continue creating opportunities for women and young people entering STEM and engineering. My success will not be measured only by the growth of my company, but also by the number of people I can encourage, mentor, support, and inspire along the way.

I believe deeply in the philosophy of helping women rise, one at a time. When one woman gains confidence, knowledge, or access to an opportunity, she can influence and empower many others.

In the coming years, I therefore envision MSV growing commercially while my personal leadership journey increasingly includes mentorship, advocacy, industry participation, and community development. I want to use my journey, experience, and the opportunities I have been given to help create opportunities for others.

I believe that true leadership is not about standing at the top alone; it is about making sure there are more people climbing the ladder behind you.

Ultimately, I want to demonstrate that technical excellence and social responsibility can exist together. For me, sustainable success means building a strong business while also contributing to the development of people, industry, and the communities around us.

Who Has Been the Most Significant Source of Inspiration in Your Life?

Veni Reddy

The greatest influences in my life have been my husband, my two daughters, my employees, my family, and the many women who have supported and encouraged me throughout my journey.

My husband and daughters have been my foundation. Their love, patience, and belief in me have given me the strength to pursue my ambitions while balancing the responsibilities of family and business. My daughters, especially, remind me why it is important to challenge limitations and create a path that shows them what is possible for women who are willing to dream, persevere, and lead.

My employees, which also includes my husband and two daughters, have played an equally important role in my business journey. Building a business is never a solo achievement. Watching my team develop, overcome challenges, and grow alongside the company has given me a deeper understanding of leadership. It has taught me that true success is not simply about what you accomplish as a CEO, but about the people you develop and the opportunities you create for others.

I am equally grateful to the women who have encouraged me along the way. Some shared their knowledge, some opened doors, and others simply offered encouragement when I needed it most. Those experiences have shaped my belief that we should never forget the people who helped us along the way.

I understand the value of having someone believe in you. It is one of the reasons I am so passionate about supporting other women in business and creating opportunities for those who are following behind us.

For me, leadership is ultimately about leaving a positive impact. I want my journey to demonstrate that where you begin does not have to determine where you end—and that success becomes far more meaningful when it creates opportunities for others.

I am deeply grateful for the people who have helped shape my journey, and I hope to become that same source of encouragement, opportunity, and belief for others.

Please List Some of the Notable Recognitions and Accreditations That You and Your Organization Have Received.

Over the past year, I have been fortunate to receive and participate in several significant professional and industry recognitions.

Among these are:

  • Women of the Year Tech Award, recognising my contribution and journey within the technology and engineering space.
  • Women in STEM 2026/2027 nomination, recognising my involvement and contribution within the STEM environment.
  • Woman of Stature Awards South Africa 2027 nomination, recognising leadership, achievement, and impact.
  • Manufacturing Indaba 2026 Panelist, where I participated in a high-level industry discussion focused on AI, data, predictive manufacturing, automation, and smart technologies.
  • Glamour Magazine Feature, which was a particularly meaningful milestone in my journey because it recognised my work as a woman in the technology and instrumentation sector.
  • Industry and business recognition for MSV Instrumentation, including recognition received through industry events and exhibitions.

MSV Instrumentation has also continued developing relationships with international and local technology partners and expanding its portfolio of specialised instrumentation and automation solutions.

However, I view awards and nominations differently from simply collecting accolades. Every recognition represents an opportunity to amplify a message. In my case, that message is that women belong in engineering, technology, manufacturing, and leadership.

My community contributions are equally important to me.

I support the Rising Stars Movement for Good because I believe in creating opportunities and encouraging people to become positive contributors to society.

I have also contributed to the Pink Princess Project, supporting children affected by cancer. This is particularly close to my heart because children and families going through difficult circumstances need more than medical support; they also need compassion, encouragement, and hope.

The Mandela Drive is another initiative I have supported because I believe leadership should extend beyond the boardroom. The values associated with service, compassion, and making a difference in the lives of others are values that I try to carry into both my personal and professional life.

I have also contributed to Meals on Wheels, supporting initiatives that provide nutritious meals and assistance to vulnerable members of our communities.

For me, true success is measured by more than turnover, titles, or awards. It is also measured by the positive impact we leave behind and by the lives we are able to influence, support, and improve along the way.

What Were the Most Challenging Obstacles You’ve Encountered in Your Career?

One of the greatest challenges I have faced has been navigating a highly technical industry while building a business as a woman.

Instrumentation and automation are highly specialised fields, and many technical environments have traditionally been male-dominated. There have been situations where I have had to work harder to establish credibility, demonstrate my technical understanding, and earn the confidence of customers and industry peers. Rather than allowing these challenges to discourage me, I used them as motivation to continuously strengthen my knowledge, capabilities, and leadership.

Building a business also comes with challenges that are not always visible from the outside. There are financial pressures, operational decisions, customer expectations, supplier relationships, staff challenges, and the constant need to adapt to changing market conditions.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that resilience is not about never experiencing difficulties. It is about learning how to respond when difficulties arise.

There have been times when plans did not work, opportunities did not materialise as expected, and circumstances required me to rethink my approach. Each experience taught me something valuable and helped me become more adaptable and prepared for the next challenge.

Another significant challenge has been keeping pace with the speed of technological change. The industrial environment is evolving rapidly, with artificial intelligence, automation, predictive maintenance, digitalisation, and connected technologies changing the way companies operate. As leaders, we cannot stop learning.

This is why I place such importance on networking, industry engagement, technical development, and listening to customers. Staying connected to the industry helps me understand emerging needs and ensures that I continue developing alongside the technologies and markets we serve.

I have also learned that leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about building a strong team, asking the right questions, making informed decisions, and taking responsibility for the outcome.

Perhaps the most important lesson of my journey is that obstacles do not have to define us. They can become part of the foundation on which we build.

Today, I look at the challenges I have overcome with gratitude because they have helped shape the leader I am becoming. My journey is still evolving. I am proud of what I have achieved, but I remain ambitious for the future.

I want to continue growing MSV Instrumentation and Supplies, contributing to the advancement of industrial technology in South Africa, supporting women in STEM, and using my platform to make a meaningful difference in communities.

If my journey can encourage another woman to believe that she belongs in a technical field, inspire a young person to consider engineering, or motivate someone facing a difficult chapter not to give up, then the journey has meaning beyond business.

My guiding belief is simple: success becomes more meaningful when it creates an opportunity for someone else to rise.
