Welcome to CEO Scoop Magazine, please share the beginning of your career journey with us.
“My career journey into coaching and teaching in many ways began at just 14 years old, when I got my very first job as a camp counselor. Even at that age, something clicked in me, and I fell in love with mentoring. I didn’t have the language for it yet, but it was my earliest introduction to what would become my life’s work.
That passion grew stronger when I entered college and pursued my bachelor’s degree in psychology. During that time, I worked as a therapeutic assistant for teens in foster care, which shaped my understanding of trauma, resilience, hope, and the power of empathy, connection, and empowerment. It led me to aspire to become a family therapist.
I went on to pursue my master’s and doctoral degrees in counseling psychology. During my first year of graduate school in 1997, I was searching for a hands-on opportunity in family therapy and couldn’t find one. My advisor suggested I consider interning at Rutgers University Career Services. At first, I wasn’t sure what career counseling was or if I’d even like it, but that internship ended up changing the entire trajectory of my career and life.
During this internship, I worked with students to uncover their professional passions, craft their resumes, conduct job searches, research graduate programs, prepare for interviews, see their strengths, and build their confidence. I found my career calling in that role. The internship led to a 13-year career in student affairs leadership. I eventually became a department director while simultaneously teaching graduate counseling psychology courses.
In 2008, I launched a part-time résumé-writing business, which organically grew as clients requested career coaching, then life coaching, then speaking engagements. Suddenly, I saw a bigger path emerging—work that combined everything I loved: psychology, writing, teaching, empowerment, and helping people rewrite their stories.
Then, in 2009, my son was born, and everything changed again. I knew I wanted to build a career that would give me flexibility and the ability to be more present with my son. So in mid-2010, I took the leap and left higher education administration to run my business full time. That leap was absolutely terrifying, but it was also the single best professional decision I ever made.
For the last 15 years, I’ve been running my business, RESCRIPT Your Story LLC, full time while teaching Women’s Leadership at Rutgers University part time. I’ve had the gift of doing work I love that makes a difference in clients’ and students’ lives while being present for my son and family. I truly wouldn’t change a thing.”

What are your long-term goals, and where do you envision yourself in the coming years?
“In recently turning 50, I feel incredibly grateful to be living a life and career I genuinely love. At this stage, my long-term goals are less about chasing the next big milestone and more about staying aligned with what brings me peace, joy, and balance.
In my coaching practice, nothing fulfills me more than watching clients reach meaningful milestones—landing a new job, starting a business, setting healthier boundaries, carving out space for passion projects, or stepping into their confidence. That’s the kind of work I want to continue doing for many years to come.
Looking ahead, I’d love to do even more speaking—sharing messages that inspire personal, professional, and organizational growth. And teaching my Women’s Leadership course at Rutgers is something I hope to continue for as long as I’m able. Every semester, I witness such profound transformation in my students, and being part of their journey is one of the greatest honors of my professional life. Helping students find and use their voices to create positive change is a gift I never take for granted.
On a personal level, I want to keep making memories with my family, nurturing my friendships, practicing daily self-care, and giving back to my community. My vision for the future is simple but meaningful: to continue living with purpose, connection, and intentionality—while helping others do the same.”
Who has been the most significant source of inspiration in your life?
“I’ve been incredibly blessed to have so many inspiring people in my life, but my son is absolutely at the top of that list. He is kind, introspective, brilliant, creative, and truly multi-gifted. Anything he sets his mind to; he does with heart and intention. Being his mom has completely transformed how I live and work. It made me far more intentional about aligning my choices with my values and building a life of purpose and presence.
My parents have also played a huge role in shaping who I am. From a very young age, they instilled in me the importance of kindness, following my passions, and working hard for what I believe in. I’m also blessed with a wonderful husband who believed I could become a successful full-time entrepreneur long before I believed it myself.
Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of being guided by several incredible women mentors who saw potential in me even during times when I was still learning to see it in myself. And I’m fortunate to have friends who genuinely embody kindness and support.
Finally, my students and clients inspire me every single day. Every risk they take, every breakthrough they achieve, every milestone they reach reinforces why I do this work. Each of these people has shaped who I am today, both personally and professionally.
Please list some of the notable recognitions and accreditations that you and your organization received.
“I’m deeply grateful for the acknowledgments I’ve received throughout my career. I was honored to be named Top Life Coach of the Year in 2025 by the International Association of Top Professionals, and my business received the Quality Business Award in both 2023 and 2024, along with the Corporate Excellence Award in 2024 and 2025. Each of these recognitions has meant so much to me.
Over the years, my work has been featured in media outlets such as News12, Forbes, and Live Happy, as well as on numerous podcasts and in business magazines that focus on personal development and career advancement. I’m especially proud of the response to my book, RESCRIPT the Story, You’re Telling Yourself, which earned eight book awards. That recognition is incredibly meaningful because the book is rooted in the real stories, experiences, and mindset shifts that have shaped my life and the lives of my clients.
From a credentials standpoint, I hold the Board-Certified Coach (BCC) designation and have completed more than 30 professional certifications spanning life and career coaching, leadership development, résumé writing, and positive psychology. Lifelong learning is something I deeply value—I always want to ensure I’m bringing the strongest tools and insights to the people I serve.
Some of the milestones closest to my heart include delivering my TEDx Talk, Re-Scripting the Stories We Tell Ourselves, in 2016, and coaching thousands of clients around the world over the course of my career. I’ve also been teaching at Rutgers University for nearly 15 years, which has given me the privilege of supporting the growth, confidence, and leadership of countless students. At the core of all my work is my passion for helping people believe in themselves and build lives and careers they truly love.”

What were the most challenging obstacles you’ve encountered in your career?
“One of the biggest challenges I faced early in my career was navigating anxiety and panic attacks in my twenties. At the time, it felt overwhelming and isolating, and I didn’t yet have the tools to understand or manage what I was going through. Ironically, those struggles became the catalyst for the mindset and gratitude work that would later transform my life—and ultimately shape the RESCRIPT framework I teach today.
Another defining challenge was making the leap from a secure, salaried leadership role in student affairs into full-time entrepreneurship in my thirties. It was incredibly scary, especially as a new parent, because I was leaving behind predictability and stepping into uncertainty. Trusting that inner calling wasn’t easy, but taking that leap allowed me to build a business and life that bring me profound joy and fulfillment.
I also struggled with imposter syndrome and charging appropriately for my services during the early years of my business. I found it difficult to fully own my value and set boundaries that honored both my expertise and my time. Over the years, I learned that valuing your work is not only essential for professional sustainability, but also for personal wellbeing.
Looking back, each of these challenges shaped me into the coach, educator, and human I am today. They deepened my empathy and strengthened my ability to support my clients through their own doubts, fears, and turning points—because I’ve walked through many of those same experiences myself.”
